For our first years, this simple guide will provide you with everything you need to know about participating in classes here at Hogwarts.
Each main subject (Ex: potions, transfiguration, charms, etc.) has its own section on the forum. These can be found on the forum home page if one scrolls down. You will notice that within each main subject are the individual classes. For example, Potable Potions I, Advanced Potion Making, etc. Select the class that you enrolled in. There should be 5 sub-boards labeled:
Week 1
Week 2
Week 3
Week 4
Final Exam (or O.W.L.s/N.E.W.T.s)
These will be where you will submit homework assignments for each week of the semester. Additionally, when you first click on the class you are taking, you should find an introductory thread from your professor (the name will change depending upon the professor's preferences). There, you will find a few brief words from your professor. Each week, a new post will be added to this thread by the professor, which will include that week's lesson and corresponding homework assignment.
Let's say your Herbology professor assigns you homework for week 1 on the process of repotting mandrakes. You would then visit the "Week 1" sub-board for that class and click "New Topic." You will notice a form at the top of the page, with a normal post box beneath it. The only place you will be entering information is in the form itself, NOT in the post a thread box. Fill out the required fields in the form. Please note that cheating is neither appreciated or acceptable, and any plagiarism violations will be dealt with accordingly. Before you submit your form, remember to enter a title. The title should read "Username's Homework."
For example: "WeasleyTwinMom's Homework"
Once you click "Post," you will not be able to revise your submission.
Your professor or your professor's assistant will read your assignment and add your grade on Engrade. They will then reply to your post stating something along the lines of "Your homework has been graded." Exceptionally well-written essays may be awarded house points.
Any student that receives an A (acceptable) average in all of their classes will advance to the next year. Please keep in mid that it will take several semesters before you can advance, as you are only permitted to enroll in three classes at a time.
Just as a brief reminder, Hogwarts uses this grading system for all of or assignments:
Passing Grades
O - outstanding
E - exceeds expectations
A - acceptable
Failing Grades
H - horrible
D - dreadful
T - troll
